The first thing to tell a client

There always comes a time in a project to stop planning and start doing. It’s amazing how many social media projects slow down or stop when it comes time to execute. “You mean we have to be totally honest?” clients ask, after which comes “What if they [fill in stakeholder group here] say something bad?”.
While there are a number of things to say to get past those issues, there is one thing you can, and should say up front. To lay the foundation for execution say this, “Social media is a business strategy. Implementation can affect your entire business, not just one department such as marketing or IT”.
If you can establish this point up-front it allows the project team to broaden their thinking and discuss the implications of social media in the right context, organization wide (potentially), and not as an isolated project marketing cooked up for the fall promotion.
This will result in fewer stalled projects, and more buy-in along the way.
