My business partner John shared a post with me that he wrote and will be coming out in a few days. It is as he is, thoughtful. It has inspired me to think more, and perhaps post less, but hopefully up the quality of what I have been writing.

In an effort to keep up with the Jones‘, or at least the enormously prodigious Jeremiah I have been posting daily, or near daily for a year now. It seems, however, that clients are not looking for quantity, they are asking deeper question, and are more satisfied with quality than just a verbal stream rehashing the latest thinking.

I ran a mini seminar last week for a provincial government department in which we looked at what social media was, and what it might mean to their business. It was a really interesting session and I had a lot of fun doing it too.

What struck me, however, was that while most people are aware of what social media is as participants in their personal lives, there seems to be an absolute difference, even a barrier in translating that to their professional lives. Even though they all know what a blog is, may have Facebook page and so on, they are still wrestling with how it can be used for business. It’s an odd schism, but one that is telling; we in the industry need to do a better job at explaining “it” and how it can be used for business.
